Mardi Gras

Posted by ellynad at 10:16 AM on February 24, 2009

Today is Fat Tuesday.

Literally translated, Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday in French.

Traditionally for Cathoilcs, Fat Tuesday is the day to get all the bad eating, drinking, and debauchery out of the system before Lent starts the next day, Ash Wednesday.

As tempting as it is, I will not be celebrating Fat Tuesday today.

It would be a really great excuse to stuff my face with goodies, which is really what I've been wanting to do lately, but I've had a lifetime of Fat Tuesdays.

And for me, Fat Tuesdays turn into Fat Wednesdays, Fat weekends, Fat months, and Fat years.

Nope, I'm going to the gym today to strength train instead.

Besides, I still haven't decided what to give up for Lent this year!

I've debated giving up white flour and sugar, but decided that going cold turkey is unrealistic for me, and not the answer.
